Zion

28 - Harlequin - mercenary - they/them

formerly an assassin working for the yakuza, though “officially” they were a casino host in the Celadon Game Corner owned by the family. enjoys doing cardistry and sleight of hands. jack of all trades, extremely adaptable and extremely good at what they do. also maybe supernaturally lucky.

aromantic them fatale. hot enough to get away with being the most irritating person in the room and has the silver tongue to match their looks. they’d sell you to satan for a cornchip. the only thing they honor is the bond of family, but, well, that’s a whole can of worms.

people hate them for being a slut tbh and maybe also the killings too but that's unlikely

their Guardian Star/soul takes the form of a Yellow Floette.

backstory

you know when you make a small mistake but you start spiraling and become convinced it’s all over? yeah so that’s basically what Zion did when they were a tween and didn’t know any better. except they took it to the extreme and decided it best to cut ties with their family and moved from Saffron to Celadon. this part is still vague.

they lived on the streets for a while until their abilities got them noticed and later basically adopted by Daphne, a woman who belonged to one of the most powerful local crime families— which controls most of Celadon, Route 7 and part of Saffron, under the name Nanairo (七色). however, Zion could tell Daphne hated the work she was assigned, but she felt she was too old and in too deep to quit. they decided to make the offer (without her agreement) to take her place in exchange for her basically getting a pardon and being allowed to stop her activities for the yakuza, without the stigma of getting exiled.

their drive and natural charisma allowed them to quickly climb through the ranks, and became rather infamous for being callous with others, both professionally and personally, both with friends and enemies. some of those rumors might’ve been greatly exaggerated, even incentivized by them. tho they’ve never hidden the fact that they’re not interested in an actual relationship with the people they sleep with.

since their early years in the yakuza they worked alongside Haru, a doctor. he hid behind the mask of a shy dorky guy but in private he could be just as nasty as them. Zion thought he was hilarious and he seemed to accept them for all they were. he was one of the few people they grew to genuinely care for, considering him their only friend.

there was just one little issue: Haru was hopelessly in love with them. after repeatedly laying down their boundaries and stating they would never date him, he began to keep his feelings on the down low, but it was a bit of an open secret they both toed around to keep their friendship.

that all came to a halt when Zion was called by the oyabun in private. while being interrogated by the Psychic wakagashira so they couldn’t hide anything, it was revealed to them that Haru had been selling crucial intel to a rival family and law enforcement. knowing the two were close, Zion was tasked with killing him to prove their loyalty. heartbroken that the only person they loved (aside from Daphne) would betray them like that, they did so. they tried to make it as painless as possible with a dagger to the heart, but despite their best efforts, the look on Haru’s eyes as he lay dying continued to haunt them for months.

so when the opportunity to hop on a cruise to a far off region for some shady mission that promised a millionaire reward presented itself, the choice was obvious. they said their goodbyes to Daphne, who never found out what they’d done, and disappeared without telling anyone else.

pokemon

RowletNaughty Nature — Zion sees pokemon mostly as weapons, this was just one they were "assigned" at random for the mission. pretty annoying and weak, but it’ll have to do. sometimes, the way it acts does remind them of someone...
